Puerto Princesa Palawan

Introduction

Palawan, a 2,000 kilometers of irregular coastline dotted with roughly 1,780 islands and islets, rocky coves, and sugar-white sandy beaches, is known to be one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines. It lies between the South China Sea and the Sulu Sea and it is named after its largest island, Palawan Island, measuring 450 kilometers long, and 50 kilometers wide.

The disputed Spratly Islands, located a few hundred kilometers to the west, are considered part of Palawan by the Philippines, and is locally called the "Kalayaan Group of Islands".

No doubt, those facts are some reasons why impeccable is the right word to describe the waters in Palawan; the underground river, the islands in Honda Bay like Pandan and Cowrie Island and so much more. Truly Palawan is blessed as it is surrounded by waters.

 Achievements of Palawan Waters

Today, the Puerto Princesa City is one of the tourist spots here in the Philippines. It is famous because of its numerous beaches, resorts and for their “Puerto Princesa Subterranean Underground River” which is part of the New 7 wonders of Nature. They also won several times as the cleanest and greenest city in the Philippines. In fact they get the 1996 HALL OF FAME AWARD for being the cleanest city for three consecutive years.

Pandan Island

"This island lies south of the Snake Island.  It is an oval shaped island that is managed by the Legends group of hotels.   The island offers a beautiful view of Honda Bay.   Like Starfish and Snake islands, Pandan has cottages that are available for visitors.    Its shores is as green as the other two islands and its sands are soft and white."

Based on research, the Water Facilities in Palawan are classified as Level I (deepwell, handpump), Level II (communal faucet), or Level III (house connection). Among all of these types, Level I has the most number of units, accounting to 17,438; this is followed by Level III, with 1,688 units; and Level II, with only 94 units. They take care of the water facilities in Palawan really well. Their water are regulated by the Environmental Health Service, its particular concern are examination of water facilities through the PHC Media Test, inspection of – toilets, food service, to include food handlers, drinking establishments, stores, markets, abattoir, recreational places and lodging houses.

Puerto Princesa also received the recognition for being the Cleanest and Greenest in Region IV and CLEANEST INLAND BODY OF WATER. These achievements became possible because of their Programs of maintaining the Environment Clean and Healthy. They launch several programs like “Oplan Linis Program” which became the Key to Successful Puerto Princesa right now. This program aimed to clean up not only the body of Puerto Princesa City but also the soul as well, the latter being its people. Central to this concept is value formation through massive information and education campaigns to instill in the mind and heart of the people, especially the children the importance of a clean and green environment. By environment, it meant not only the physical but the spiritual, moral and psychological aspects as well.

Being surrounded by bodies of water and marine life is truly a blessing but what is exceptional in Puerto Princesa is that they maintain and protected the beauty of their place and the discipline that was shown by the people there.

 Experience

“Puerto Princesa city’s attractions have much to do with its natural wonders and commitment to the environment.

In fact, it’s been named the Philippines’ cleanest and greenest city, and has been internationally recognized for environmental excellence.”

At Puerto Princesa, we had Honda bay Island hopping tour. Island hopping is one of the biggest attractions of Puerto Princesa.

The tour had a stopover at scuba rental place before taking place to the seaports.

At Honda Bay, boats take tourists to nearby islands for lunch picnics, snorkeling and non-stop swimming.

The calm water and sandy feet beat any hotel pool.

 In Pandan Island.

It is a good place to relax and lots of other things to have fun.

Using snorkels, we interacted closely with the fishes and fishes that live in crystal-clear water around reefs.

Its white-sand beaches and crystal-blue water makes Palawan a haven for tourists.

 In the Underground River.

"The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is a protected area of the Philippines located about 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of the city centre of Puerto PrincesaPalawan. The river is also called Puerto Princesa Underground River."

The entire area where the Underground River is located is actually a national park and a model of biodiversity.

More than 800 plant species, including almost 300 trees, 195 bird species, 30 mammals, 19 reptiles, and eight bat species call this home.

Puerto Princesa is also home to more private and less commercial beaches.
